So, it's normally about now that I place my bet on the US elections. This year however I am genuinely nonplussed.

Trump - Not doing shabbily in the polls against Biden. Riding very high in Republican primary polls, commanding far more demagogue fervour than i'd expected. Charges against him increasing his anti-establishment schtick. BUT spending 15 months aggressively defending charges against him is going to take its toll. And even if it enhances his appeal within his base, i'm not convinced it's going to sway the floating voter across the country. 

De Santis - May have had a chance against Biden but showing no signs of a breakthrough against Trump in the primaries. If anything going backwards and the subject of constant ridicule. 

Ramaswamy - Appeals to the base, might do well against Biden, but seems so content not to upset Trump's supporters that it's hard to see him making a breakthrough. Unless Trump is in jail which he won't be. 

Biden - Electorally popular and still the bookies' favourite but I still feel like he won't run. Even if he does are people really going to turn out in droves for someone who even for an 80 year old seems senile? Plus the Hunter noise refuses to die down.

Harris - Scarcely mentioned as a contender. Doesn't seem able to inspire Democrats and still harder to see her winning the country.

Kennedy - Appears much more popular amongst Republicans than Democrats who are increasingly turned off.. Could almost see him in a rogue, anti-establishment (leaving aside that both are obviously establishment) double ticket with Trump notwithstanding his environmental stance.

Michelle O - no sign whatsoever that she will run.

I can't currently see a route through for any candidate - which leaves me more flummoxed by an election than ever before.
