Stuart Broad

I will miss him more than Anderson - have followed his career since before he was selected for England and always thought he was particularly unlucky with dropped catches etc.

He is the heart and soul of the England Ashes team and will be hard to replace.

And he had Warner on a string.

Come on Stuart, one more magical spell tomorrow just to keep us all happy.

i think it’s unfair 2 compare them

broad passion7 and unpredictable

anderson relentlessly accur7 and professional

different players. personally, if i had 2 pick i would choose broad. it feels harsh that virtually every single article on broad mentions anderson

weird time to announce his retirement, could have waited two days.

He likes the attention and the big stage and will use it as motivation. His mindset will be now I’ve announced it I need to go out and perform. It also takes the focus off of Jimmy who will now probably put in his best performance of the series.

Could all end up as a damp squib for Broad if it all ends up as a victory for Warner, as he hits a match winning century (better still if he pummels Broad to all corners in the process)!

Imagine if he takes the last wicket to win the match.

That would mean his last batting stroke went for 6 and his last ball was a wicket.

Must be a first and a hell of a way to go out!

I’ll keep my fingers firmly crossed.

What Bertha said, tbf. Feels like he's going early based on some of his bowling this series.

Although if he's going out, it was a spectacular way to do it.

Well, Jim, you sure as hell can uncross them now!

Kudos to Jim.

Broady is second only to Shane Warne in my cricket watching life as being a bowler who could turn a game with one of his spells/force of character.

If only he hadn’t gone down that silly ‘enforcer’ phase a few years ago, he would have had about 50 more wickets.

Despite Warner being his bunny on a string, I still treasure more the sight of a Broady in-nipper constantly slamming into the hapless Shane Watson’s front leg,  plumb in front.

And he’s leaving at least 50 wickets out there by going now. He’ll need to sell a lot of branded bandanas and sit on a lot of sofas to make it pay. Can’t help thinking there’s a biz manager in his ear.

I've passed your comments onto Broady and he said you've given him a lot to think about. He regularly reads rof and particularly looks out for your quirky italicised one liners and casual racism. He said to keep believing in and pursuing your dreams.

Broad's been thinking about this for some time, I suspect.  He (with Harry Gurney) owns, really quite good two pubs and is clearly looking at expanding (The Cat and Wickets group).  He's left when we wants, unlike Anderson, who's looking back up the hill and is well past his time.
