Southgate to Man United

Seems to be gathering momentum.

I'd be ok with his, tbh.

He's a poor choice. A good record at international level but that's because it's less tactically demanding - when you have a squad of players for a limited time there's no chance of implementing any complex tactics, it's just about setting them up in a way that is simple and effective.

He's never done particularly well at club level, and appointing him on the basis of international success is insane.

Can't think of any England managers who have gone on to have more success after that appointment.  Southgate seems well-suited to the international stage.  Can't see him managing well at club level.

I have hated Southgate since the Roy Keane sending off. He would be a terrible choice and the first misstep under the new regime. I don’t think the fans will back him either. Not statement enough for the social media lot, and for the same reasons as me for the match day reds (who have long memories)

He's done a cracking job with England, instilled a team spirit that was sorely lacking, and the players clearly believe in him. I've got a sneaky feeling a) this will happen, & b) he'll do well.

I have hated Southgate since the Roy Keane sending off.

Keano and Southgate have made their peace about that incident. Keano went over the top first before Southgate tried to scissor tackle him and then what happened next happened. I don't want Southgate near the job, but there are much better reasons not to want him at OT.

Tbf, ETH has done a largely good job, won a trophy, CL qualification, has the best win record of any United manager after 100 games (with a comparatively crap side) and a 17-2 cup record.

I think he deserves time to build on what he's started. But if United don't get CL at least, or get a pasting in the FA Cup, I think he'll be done.

Sir Jim was on the Geraint Thomas cycling club podcast this week talking about Man U and admired how Arsenal had given Arteta time to sort the team out. I found it interesting even though I'm not a huge football fan (Man U chat starts around 30 mins in I think).

My uneducated guess is that they will stick with Ten Hag for another season or two until they sort out some of the backroom issues and the football director bloke they acquired from Man City has had time to properly assess what need to be done.
