The singer from Roxette is brown bread

sad news, and somehow symbolic of the sad passing of time that the singer of such up beat songs from my youth (which I strongly associate with my first romance) should have passed away.

Actually, I have a very good friend who is a confirmed atheist, raised in an atheist household. Not so much an atheist but rabidly anti-religion.

he is not uneducated by any means but I did wonder, in his complete rejection of any hint of religion, just how he interpreted much of the history of western (or, indeed any) civilisation.

Some years ago (in his 30s) he collapsed with some kind of brain embolism. He said that the doctors told him 'that he effectively died for several minutes' It was only the fact that he then worked in a hospital (in the management team) when it happened in the hospital that saved  him. If he had been at home, he would have died. it took him about two years to recover.

But he said 'when it happened, there were no bright lights or silver covered clouds'; only re-enforcing his atheism. I was too polite to point out that 'Er, you did not really die'.
