I agree the actual incident was bad but not 3 year ban bad, if he'd then apologised for it.
However, the doubling down speech, trying to pressure the player into saying she consented, refusing to apologise, etc. Hard to argue with the outcome. I don't think a poor record on handling racism is a reason to go easy on sexism.
As ever, it's rarely the incident itself, it's the attempt to bluff his way out of it that did for him.
If they dealt with Suarez properly the more recent racism would have been easier to clamp down on. A clear violation for which he never apologised or showed any remorse and he basically got away with a pathetic ban. He should have been banned for a year and Liverpool fined £1m a week for condoning his behaviour until they realised the error of their ways.
