No they were closing the ticket offices and pretending that they were going to keep the staff on so that their more easily gulled supporters wouldn't kick up a fuss.

Ticket offices another load of pointless shit for the left and right to whine about. Close them and put BTP on trains and at stations to cure ASB, fare dodging and county lines dealing. Simplify tickets so there is no need for someone with insider knowledge.

this was something the over 60s didn't like - the only people actually likely to vote Tory at the next election so no doubt government did some heavy leaning here.
I'd rather have the staff on the platform with an ipad so they're easy to find. The ticket office at my local station is shut for most of the day anyway and suspect the person who staffs it just spends the rest of the day drinking tea watching the CCTV in case something happens.
Tories clutching at straws to secure any votes they can having now realised anyone with half a brain will vote them out. So now they are chasing the votes of people who can't even operate a modern day smart phone.

the reality is, we don't need ticket offices, we just like knowing they're there.
I'm blind, I can't find them half the time so I don't bother trying. The ticket machines are good enough (when they work).
