I'm recording onto a powerpoint presentation. The recording is shown as being there but not playing on any computer. I've tried the things the internet tells me to do and had no success.
I hate PowerPoint so much, but my workplace basically runs on it. Pretty much true that if there isn't a PowerPoint it never happened. I think a lot of people like it as a crutch for poor public speaking skills.

I think there is a setting about whether it plays automatically when the slide opens or if you have to manually click it to start.

PowerPoint Narration is a tricky thing (I'm assuming that's what you mean by 'recording').
Have you tried this?

Thanks IT Pleb I've printed that out yesterday but we don't seem to be able to get it to work still.
