Poor Things

Weird and peedie.

It is not the child brain that is problematic but rather the issue of the capacity of stone’s character to consent to what is happening to her. But as I say I’ve not seen it and base all this on a guardian article I read.

It's about her journey of discovery into equality and becoming liberated from the expectations of women at the time. It isn't about dirty old men taking advantage of a child.

It's the one where a woman has a baby's brain put into her skull and then sort of becomes a nympho when she's mentally about 5.
----
This is actually the plot. She liberates herself from her creator by fooking a random who she agrees totraipse around Europe with. She liberates herself further by setting up as a hooker.

It's all very liberating. I feel free just watching all that coochie and tit on display which was definitely not titillating for the straight male audience. Emma as the director was very liberated.

Visually it's excellent, acting is great. The message isn't without merit, but at the core it's a heady brew of paedo excusory and men who love the idea of a free spirit woman, but actually want to tame her.

You lost your shit about a week ago because I thought it was a poor decision to book someone to sing Murder on the Dancefloor in a venue where 90 people were murdered. Maybe you're just an edge lord. That's cool. Someone has to be.

I don’t really vibe with American ideas of relationships or purported feminism or liberation. They are often fake with one dimensional characters. I haven’t seen the film and am not yet persuaded.

Oh was that you? I think self-evidently it was you losing your shit about that. As you are about this film.

I don't think it is being an edge lord to imagine that if a theater stays open after something like that, then it is going to show a LOT of things which are murder adjacent, as all theaters do. Suggesting it should do otherwise is like suggesting law firms shouldn't work for clients who aren't nice.

The pattern is nothing to do with me, it's just that you happen to have said at least two twittish things.

Right. Having watched it last night I now have the correct answer.

So all the paedo stuff is a cul de sac. You can ignore that. Just muddled thinking.

It’s a bit French though. The satire works, a sort of Candide ingenue traipsing their way through various hardships as lessons are learned, while at the same time spoofing the other side. The signposts are loud and clear however. Subtle it isn’t. Ruffalo as a cad misses the mark tho. He’s just not credibly that much of a bounder.

Visually great. Ms Stone was very brave too in terms of the nudity. That all worked without being titillating or voyueristic, which is not always easy to do.

7.9/10 for me Clive.

I have now seen Poor Things.  Visually it's amazing and inventive. Acting all excellent, especially Stone (obvs) and Mark Ruffalo - I love him anyway and thought he was great as the cad and bounder.   I liked the ending - liberation for BB and comeuppance for the appalling husband.

It's not peedo.
