Police defund fans

This is what you end up with - ‘private’ security firms.

It’s an interesting one. I worked with Sussex some years ago on combatting business crime (Shoplifting and ASB). There was a CCTV/online firm that were doing great things and having an effect. They had expanded to community patrols by “rangers” which I did not hugely object to, depending on their training and how they were told to deal with incidents. I then found out they carried and used handcuffs and strongly advised my boss to steer clear. Although it is not illegal if used in the right way, I don’t think it’s a good look, it makes them look more like police and is much more open to abuse.*

Don’t like it at all.

*not that there aren’t many examples of the police abusing their own powers before someone points this out.
