Just received one from "[first name] I.C. Wang";

u?

I just sent a text to Wang sharing the news that I have a client who works in a non English speaking government role. She starts her emails ‘Dear The Johnson’.

Johnson is not my name. I cannot correct this now as it has gone on too long.

A couple of times I've been the guilty party in the wrong-name conundrum.

In both cases, I realised my mistake quite early on (I still have trouble with forrin names) but continued nevertheless to see if the recipients would be the first to breach politeness.  Neither of them broke.
