There are so many planning projects scuppered by newts that I struggle to see how they can be considered endangered. 

From what I've read this is a hangover from EU regulation with newts being threatened across northern Europe but not really in the UK.

He will just need to build a farcical knee high polythene fence round the building works to keep the newts out.
