I don't know about that, m9s.  As folks have said, the tozzas love nothing better than a culture war - both in itself ("pisses off the right people") and as a wonderful distraction from the "cost of living crisis" (aka us plebs getting steadily poorer).  

I frankly doubt the average football supporter shares Lineker's views either.
