Getting absolutely owned on Twitter re flags. What a aunt

I agree with much of what he says but it often doesnt sit well from somebody who is happy to take millions from the public for chatting about football for an hour or so every week.

‘flag shaggers’ like this one royalty?

My husbans coffin had that flag over it. It's not a piece of cloth. People
fought under that flag for you to sit spouting your Shit

"My husband's coffin had that flag over it. It's not a piece of cloth. People fought under that flag for you to sit spouting your Shit"

It's funny how these pontificating celebrities never reply to tweets, let alone ones like this one.

I'd like to think it's because they've been shamed into silent embarrassment by relatives of people who have sacrificed their lives for our country.

What does "literal embodiment" even mean?

Flags are an enormously potent and emotive symbol of national identity. It's infantile and banal to pretend they're just "pieces of cloth".

I think not being patriotic is fine.  Countries are made up, flags are made up.

If anything just targeting the flag is odd - why not go the whole hog?

If people are patriotic, that's fine by me too.

Nationalism's a bit of a different beast.

I wouldn't say I was "patriotic" particularly. It sounds a bit twee.

I am a civic nationalist, in that I believe in self determination for countries.

Why would that mean I think my country is "better"? On the contrary, it means I have a healthy respect for every country and her people

Heh. Good one sails. Mr c, he was happy enough to drape himself in the England flag previously. Since he’s stopped playing football all he’s done is suck up money from tv licence payers who are much poorer than him, and generally use his fame to support causes that are inimical to the vast majority of the British people but work to the advantage to a small class of largely white wealthy privileged males such as yourself (and many others on this board)

Wayne is always in the press, but not sure why Gary would refer to him. Wayne is a bit slimy but wayne and his son run one of the more successful clubs in Ibiza.

What i find highly offensive is you think anyone who doesnt agree with you hates their country, which now presumably includes me.

It’s an old card to play risky, and usually shows the weakest of the argument it is being used to support it.

you have absolutely no idea of my background.

Yes you made a pretty big presumption here apparently i am in:

”a small class of largely white privileged males”

so you know who i am and what my background is?

‘Such as yourself’ you said i am in it. You referred to a ‘class’. Do you know who i am or what my background is? Like you now centring on the word ‘largely’.  Doesn’t really tally with ‘small class’ now does it risky?

same old story risky, you make statements, when you are called up on them, you squirm, go back…

anyway still throwing around statements that people who disagree with you hate their country. I am sure you will make the same statements in the future.

Marshall my point is I am not white and male and privileged. Which risky liked to pigeon hole me in because it fitted his anti metropolitan elite argument. He made a massive presumption about who I am.  If you are using the word antecedents, presumably you took the word privileged as privileged background. My family were working class, still are, as I am, as I would argue class is not driven by what you earn. My parents were not poor but parents wages were low. I went to a comprehensive. First in my immediate family to go to university, based on a full grant when the govt gave grants out. That’s about all I am willing to say but I am definitely not who risky seems to think I am based on my political views and I am probably closer the class risky seems to claim he or his views are champion of in this thread, but then I am making a massive presumption about riskys background. I frankly don’t who the hell he is.

Risky no you don’t answer to me nor I to you. Probably best to leave it now but this thread is a perfect an example of your little set world viewpoint.

I am not embarrassed by my background. The opposite. I am working class. I am not making out I am anyone I am not. Why did I pull you up on who you thought I am or what my background was?  I also disliked the comment anyone who doesn’t agree with you hates their country.  You may be surprised but most remainers were patriotic.

I am trying not to make presumptions about you risky but I took your comment as unpleasant as it came across as a unpleasant lower middle class south eastern male comment about someone who may have a working class background and is now in a well paid profession. Fought their way up by their boat straps! Maybe it shows the chip on my shoulder risky, but I have worked in big law firms where as soon as I open my mouth or my education is known, it’s a disadvantage ie not private school with a non regional accent.

I didn’t come from ‘The hood’ but from a stable working class family which I am grateful for, far from your perception though risky.

Linekar would get 80 goals a season if he played today for city

He wasn't exactly playing for a poor team when he scored those 40 goals in a season.

Only a superhuman effort by Liverpool and Ian Rush meant he didn't win the double that season.

Your last comment is QED I think for all my arguments on here. We didn’t learn Latin in my comp. 😀

if you want to live in your own little meta verse up to you. We can agree to disagree. Have a nice evening.

i’ve no time 4 lineker and his smug insight-lite style of football punditry and minor celebrity

but this is a storm in a teacup. his tweet is a joke about preferring sticks of rock 2 pieces of cloth. not a good joke, but it’s quit obviously a joke

no surprises 2 c rof’s gammon who’s who all being po-faced here

voting brexit was the anti-patriotic thing 2 do. it is known.

the likes of dyson, jrm and putain’s cronies supported brexit out of venal self-interest, not love of britain. and no1 who voted 4 brexit did it 4 love of the uk

good god ur attempt at banter and witty repartee is 1 of the most painfully awkward, unfunny and incel-ish things 2 read, ever, hanners.

even u must feel embarrassed at times?

Timing was pretty obtuse, though.
