Johnson v Sunak on the environment

BoJo

2015: Allocated £900k to improve green spaces in London

2020: Introduced ban on petrol cars by 2030

2021: Hosted COP26

Sunak

2023: Trashed the lot

I think Sunak might have jumped the gun, getting massive blow back in press releases and tweets from the car makers who have been kitting out for carbon neutral and all electric by 2030 and now they see HMG saying "actually your competitors get 5 years of flogging petrol cars to sceptical consumers"

it's kind of amazing how bad at this Sunak is and how he seems to be able to make every angrier at the same time

The car industry will not have been gearing up their production just for little old UK.

The European and wider market has always said the earliest it will outlaw the sale of new ICE’s will be 2035.

There is literally no prejudice whatsoever to them by the Sunak move.

The car industry will not have been gearing up their production just for little old UK.

Yeah they are just putting out press releases saying that they have for fun and / or because they are part of the anti-growth coalition matrix blob.

He's definitely still planning on hitting net zero in 2050, just by not doing the things we need to do, until much later. Also scrapping some of the other bits that might pick up the odd vote from Uxbridge but we will still be good for 2050.

Scumbag.
