How is the french ban on the abaya going to work

"hey ladies go home and change your dress isn't form fitting enough this is FRANCE"?

It's a bit crazy, isn't it?

France seems to have this weird obsession with policing how women's bodies are displayed. Obviously, policing in an opposite direction relative to the ayatollahs in Iran, but very much the same type of thing.

Would it work for the girls involved to declare that they are boys - then could they wear whatever they want?

They are banning the Khandora (for boys) as well I believe but obviously that gets no attention.

There are really difficult issues around this stuff and whether it is ever appropriate to seek to require integration into a dominant culture and where lines are drawn but I don't believe Macron is genuinely coming at this from a position of principle. This is a dog whistle to reach those who are tempted to go to the hard right.

Given recent experience of being turned away from a french swimming pool for not having a pair of trunks through which every scrotal wrinkle was visible, I think this is perfectly workable

The receptionist helpfully pointed me towards their vending machine speedos.  I declined.*

*I did go back having bought some expensive skin tight trunk shorts from a trendy  ski shop.  Any ladies who want photos...

Yes i know. But an abaya is just a big frock. How is it defined in law in a way that js different from a big frock? Thus, are big frocks banned? Are we all to be scrutinised like wang in his designer speedos now?
