Friend of my mum's got trapped in her cellar when the funny lift serving it decided to get stuck half way up.
My dad tried to persuade me to put in a lift to his bedroom even though it's up in the eaves so the lift would have to come up in the middle of the room to be able to rise high enough.

None of this cables and closed boxes nonsense, just a platform with a barrier round that effortlessly lifts up to the next floor.
