Seems world is moving on - I am starting to understand how my parents felt 25 years ago with the rise of the internet now. Lots of stuff I dont have the foggiest about.
I am also at the age where all new pop music sounds indistinguishable and mediocre to me, and think that if the young'uns would give the music from my era a proper chance they would absolutely love it. Which I know objectively is unlikely when I think back on how my dad used to try getting me interested in Neil Sedaka.
I dont agree about music - I think pop music at least is better now than it was in the late 80s and 90s when I listened to it (not so much "proper" music although I think there is just as much good new stuff now as there was then). The late 80s were the absolute nadir of pop
yes and then we'd have no more new music and the arts scene could join the rest of the country in a self inflicted tedious stagnation because nostalgia is basically free heroin for the old
I stand by t the early 80s being the best time for pop (even though it was slightly before my time) with many strong songs that still appeal even to an old fart like me

I think I saw a short documentary on the internet about this very subject
A couple of very nice young ladies providing a highly graphic demonstration of their goblin technique

also pop music is designed as the soundtrack to growing up and all that entails - once you are properly grown up it tends not to be as interesting.

The more enlightened part of me does not disagree with either of you. Was just observing that I'm turning into cranky old guy myself ...
