The coverage talks about how the far side of the moon is more rugged, etc., which seems to imply that the far side of the moon is always the far side. So does it mean that its revolution about its own axis is somehow synchronized with its rotation around Earth?

Yes, synchronous rotation...

...the crater the Chinese lander is exploring is 2500 km in diameter and 13 km deep... ...they think that whatever hit the moon with that force actually broke through the mantle... ...cool eh?
