Entrecôte Marylebone

What’s the craic. The queue is round the block for what looks like a fairly ordinary place? Is it amazing / cheap / amazingly cheap? Or just in a guide book?

Round the block queues doesn’t scream out that the food is rubbish - it says hype or cheap or both

lots of nice places nearby and weird people will stand in the pavement for an hour waiting to eat presumably a steak

The one in Throgmorton Street was good. Not been for a few years. The staff had tried to perfect their French accent but if talked to in French the whole facade immediately collapsed.

Assume there is more than one chain but they are everywhere and have been for years and years. Fixed menu of steak with the sauce, chips and salad and a trolley style desert offering. Reasonable prices. Fun once in a while but wouldn’t queue for it.

The better Cotes (eg Barbican and Hampstead) are probably the overall best value sit down meals in London.  Cross that the Islington one has been replaced with some absolutely ludicrously overpriced crap pasta place.

I used to like the throgmorton one back in the day when there were no queues except perhaps Thursday lunch and the service was good.  Last time I went on a Friday night with Mrs Verti and there was a massive queue and half the tables were empty.  Found a table on my phone at city social and went there for a cote de boeuf instead.
