When I say that Gwendog sat by Young G, it was more that she sat on Young G. Gwendog was quite a lump and her bottom felt very heavy as it landed on your arm, leg, lap or whatever happened to be in the way. She would then sigh theatrically before settling down.
Young G went through a phase when showering regularly was a problem. During that time Gwendog would wash Young G's face and arms perhaps for 15 minutes at a time.
