Had to do one of these recently. The key is to screw with the "retention" person's script by giving them unexpected answers. "How was [the product]" = "haven't tried it yet". "Why do you want to cancel?" "No reason" or "My wife's making me". The guy I had just gave up and processed it straight away.
Says all services must be cancellable with a single communication, and that communication can be submitted by any means.
Although tbh that's such a stupid and obviously unworkable law that it'll likely get modified fast and we'll end up with something much shitter than if they'd just written a reasonable law to begin with.
BT does this. You can click on any number of additional subscriptions online but if you want to cancel for some reason they make you speak to a friendly salesperson from the North East. I don't mind. It's good to talk.
I don't have a problem with this. I've known of people getting services cancelled by vexatious "friends", at least a call means they can verify (and record) the conversation.
Yeah, just skip the retention stuff unless they have an offer you can't refuse

If they do it online then you normally have to click about 4 different boxes in ever smaller type saying:
“Are you really, really sure?”
Seem to remember Prime was like that and my Mum tried (and failed) three times to cancel before I talked her through it.

Just say you've lost your job and they usually skip the whole script.
Isn't there some law coming in that makes it so cancellation has to be available through the same mechanism as sign-up?

If it’s too difficult I just write to the company cancelling and then cancel the DD or CPA.
