Boris Johnson was turned away from a polling station when trying to vote in the local elections after forgetting to bring acceptable photo ID.
Sky News understands polling station staff were forced to turn the former prime minister away after he initially failed to comply with legislation he introduced while he was in Downing Street.
Mr Johnson, who introduced the Elections Act requiring photo ID in 2022, was attempting to cast his ballot in South Oxfordshire, where a police and crime commissioner for the Thames Valley is being selected.

On the one hand, I sympathise as it's such a shitty law. Then I remember his government brought it in so...

It was evidently an imposter if it didn't have ID.
Shows the value of the new legislation

He probably did it deliberately, he’s currently the third story on bbc news website. The bumbling personality is a well-worn routine for distracting from other headlines (large Tory loss) and for maintaining his personal media profile.

What Nihil said. Also, it demonstrates how “everybody is being treated the same way” - giving a somewhat fatuous retort to those who argue that the voter ID requirement may have a disenfranchising effect for those who are vulnerable or of disadvantaged socioeconomic status.

Definite publicity stunt.

yeah, I get that it could have been deliberate for those reasons.
Makes him even more of a khunt.
If that's even possible.

Could be deliberate, I get that no publicity is bad publicity for disgraced ex prime ministers -see also Truss. But if it were would there not have been cameras? A well placed by stander with an iphone at least?

Useful to get this on the record

Risky, the problem was never that people would "forget" to bring ID, it was that not having it they wouldn't bother showing up at all. Amusing that the Tories accidentally disenfranchised a hardcore Tory pocket of voters though.

If you "forget" your ID, you pop back home for it.
Does the Electoral Comission actually understand what disenfranchisement means?
