By far my favourite character (if that is the right term).  The most accomplished of all, level-headed and thoroughly likeable.  A great loss.  He died of throat cancer, so this might have been related to smoking.

I still remember him saying when he was 7 ‘It’s my heart’s desire to see my Father’ (who was a semi-absent army dad).
