A solicitor who was criticised on the  solicitorsfromhell website is suing the site's owner after he was told he'd have to pay for the comments to be removed.

The website was established by Rick Kordowski five years ago, after he had a bad experience with a local law firm. It allows dissatisfied clients to air their grievances about their lawyers. Although not necessarily in the most even handed or constructive of ways. By way of example, one sizeable firm is described as "one of the most crooked law firms in Scotland, and that's saying something because the vast majority of Scottish law firms are crooked as hell". OK.

When solicitor Scott Eason found that he was being dissed he asked Kordowski to take down the postings. Kordowski said he'd be happy to - in return for an admin fee of between £99 and £299. Eason claimed this was "akin to extortion" and instructed Carter Ruck to go after him for libel, The Lawyer reported.

Kordowski justified his unorthodox approach to revenue generation by saying that he had to cover his costs somehow. He told RollOnFriday that donations from posters hadn't been meeting his outgoings, so last November he "hit upon the idea of charging solicitors a fee to take off the listings. A few solicitors have obliged and paid up. But it is not a money making enterprise in the least. And it has never been my intention to extort money from solicitors".

Kordowski added that he wasn't sure what Carter Ruck hoped to achieve by suing him, given that he didn't have any money. Well, possibly that would be the grim satisfaction of seeing Mr Kordowski hauled over the coals, bankrupted and his website being incinerated, a cynical observer might comment.

Anyway, RollOnFriday understands that today sees the launch of Kordowski's rather more positive sister title, www.solicitorsfromheaven.com. It seems to be empty.
