Newly-forged King & Wood Mallesons (tagline: "The Power of Together") has been taking out full page spreads in the legal press to advertise the merger of the Chinese giant and Aussie big hitter. And to push the "groundbreaking" brand, advertising gurus have come up with some oddly exciting images. Emphasis on the odd.

The adverts show lawyers standing in front of a hoverbike, an arachnid-like deep core miner and a top-heavy eco-tower. Oh yes. In each picture, partners from the firm stand around awkwardly with rictus grins, pretending to give press conferences or cut ribbons.

"King & Wood Mallesons is proud to have advised on the successful IPO of long-term client, Li Tan Hover Cycle company", reads one as partners and clients hold hands behind a shiny red hoverbike. Apparently the firm has already received several enquiries from members of the public asking where they can buy a hoverbike.

    Law firm branding, 2032 style

As is customary for law firm branding the whole exercise has taken a year at, no doubt, astonishing cost. Think you could do better? Then get busy with Photoshop, or scissors and cellotape and send in your best King & Wood Mallesons pretend pie-in-the-sky deal to the usual place. The best one will win a house on the moon. Heh. That's about as much deference as is deserved for the takeover of a 200 year old, top tier firm by someone no one had heard of 5 minutes ago, and whom it's own whipping boy - sorry, merger partner - can't trust to keep client confidences safe from the Chinese Communist Party.
