Freehills announced six new partners this week - and, highly unusually for a major firm, most were women.

In fact only two of the new appointees were male. Freehills’ CEO Gavin Bell told RollOnFriday it was good to see that the proportion of women promoted was more in line with the growing numbers of women studying law and working in the more junior ranks. "We only ever promote to partnership based on merit and a strong business case, and it’s pleasing to see we have the quality of people who can offer our clients the best legal and commercial advice in the market. Freehills is committed to engaging women in successful careers and promoting an equitable gender balance in senior roles."

Scenes at Freehills yesterday

Freehills is one of 12 law firms that has been credited as an Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency. All that's left is for the firm to sort out the odd allegation of age discrimination, and all will be well.
