Residents at a block of flats in Stoke-on-Trent have been told to remove welcome mats and pot plants from their porches as they pose a health and safety risk.

Judge Durwood Moore, of the Supreme Court of Tennessee, has been disciplined after forcing an innocent courtroom spectator to undergo a drugs test. The judge, for no apparent reason, ordered court officers to seize the man and obtain a urine sample from him.

Staff at the Edinburgh office of Scottish law firm Drummond Miller had an unexpected visitor in the shape of a small exotic bird last week:

From: Reception
Date: 25th June 2009
To: All staff

"JUST HAD SSPCA ON THE PHONE ASKING IF THEIR IS A PARROTT NEEDING RESCUED PLEASE REPLY URGENTLY"

-----------------------------------------

From: Partner
To: All staff

"I can confirm that the Executry department is currently being inspected by a lady from the SSPCA - makes a change from the Law Society..."

-----------------------------------------

From: Partner
To: All staff

"Thank you for the many messages of concern and support.  I can confirm that it is not a dead parrot, not even a sick one, in fact a rose cheeked love bird!"

-----------------------------------------

Apparently the animal escaped unharmed.

Staff at Freehills received this unorthodox invitation:

Togas, beer and enough chicken nuggets to choke a horse. All you could want of an evening.

Two Irish solicitors have launched a 10 day "law camp" giving children between the ages of 12 and 17 "a unique and exciting" opportunity to sample life in a courtroom. So they can then work for free.
  That's just wrong

And finally, staff at Ince & Co have clarified the firm's catering arrangements:

From: Associate at Ince
Date: 26th June 2009
To: RollOnFriday Towers

As an Associate at Ince, I think it would be worth making mention of the food services.
While we do not have a restaurant, we do every lunch time, in our "Break Out Room" (a relaxing space with Cappuccino machine etc.), have a "Grab and Go" service of food prepared by the kitchen.

There is a hot soup every day, fruit salad, veggie and meat based salads and a selection of wraps and sandwiches. The salad and soup changes daily and the wraps and sandwiches weekly. The cost is very favourable when compared with shop prices.

In addition, for those working late or at weekends, there are frozen meals which can be microwave.

-----------------------------------------
Microwave meals, a coffee machine and a "relaxing space". That's living the dream...
