Today is the first dress down Friday in Lovells' history. And naturally staff have been issued with strict instructions as to what is and isn't appropriate.

Hogan & Hartson's London office has had a dress down Friday policy for  a while. However Lovells never had any truck that American-inspired wishy washy nonsense. But following the merger it has caved in and allowed all London staff at the newly formed Hogan Lovells to wear mufti. That's as long as staff don't wear clothes that are:
  • provocative;
  • too short;
  • too sheer;
  • too revealing; or
  • too tight.

So, that's the firm's senior partner sent home to change then as his favoured leisurewear (see below) would appear to fail on all 5 counts.

    John Young relaxing at a partners' conference yesterday

A spokesman for the firm rather desperately claimed that people "were unhappy with the restriction on skimpy swimwear since we were hoping to import a couple of tonnes of sand and create an urban beach around the fountain in Atlantic House. Saves going to Portugal for the summer and getting trapped by an Icelandic volcanic cloud". OK.
