Continuing our week-long detox, we've decided to try some mighty non-meat options for our lunch and our overwhelming favourite was Pilel.

When this particular Middle Eastern delight came to our own middle east (London - Spitalfields to be precise), we were somewhat uninterested. Hitherto, falafel was best eaten with a fat slab bacon - it was the stodge we paired to our choice of meat rather than the main event. At Pilpel, it is completely different. The falafel is not just the main event, but the king of foods.

Pilpel followers can be found everywhere

Opened by Uri Dinay, Pilpel is a tribute to his grandfather (aka 'The Falafel King') as it uses the recipes and skills passed down through the Dinay family. We think he must be proud - this secret recipe is genius. Addictive like KFC but using locally sourced healthy produce to create something incredibly tasty and not unhealthy (we're told).

This really is a game changer for us - lunch every day can be a fantastic, nutritious and healthy foods all for under £5. Good on the body, good on the wallet - perhaps this January detox will be beneficial for a number of reasons.

If you get bored of falafel (why would you with the wide range of toppings - not just the traditional houmous, but also aubergine, feta and guacamole. You can also get houmous on its own (and with toppings) or even in a pitta (along with aubergine and egg). Whatever you get, you will feel better for having it - it's refreshing, filling and healthy. There is no down side...
