We struggled to think of something to review that dramatically improved our lifestyle this week but we did manage to find a dining gem that, we think, will be our loved local for years to come. That’s a good lifestyle change, right? It makes a change from trekking across the city to go to some over-hyped mess of a restaurant serving up cheap cuts dressed up in some berry jus or whatever...

Happily, Kitchen W8 (that’s ‘W’ and ‘8’ not text speak for pausing in a kitchen) is actually under-hyped and produces high quality modern British cuisine. We know that ‘modern British cuisine’ is quickly becoming one of those generic tags, but in this case it is because they are turning out eye and mouth pleasing western (European) delights. It's not one of the multitude of gastropubs churning out burgers and chunky chips (though we love that too). At W8 you can expect seasonal food cooked perfectly. Start with British snails or wild duck ravioli before getting down to Sea Bream fillet or braised Ox Cheeks. Whatever you choose, it will haunt your dreams until you next visit.

Kitchen W8 struck a blow for gender equality as everyone was happy

Opened in late 2009, Kitchen W8 quickly established itself as one of London's new leading restaurants - but that wasn't really what the owners (Philip Howard and Rebecca Mascarenhas) wanted - they wanted the best culinary experience they could provide but in that homely 'local' restaurant environment. They wanted to create a home away from home. This is exactly what you get (assuming you eat high quality produce, expertly cooked and at reasonable prices at home).

Not just that, but the prices are fantastic - we're big fans of the Sunday set lunch (3 courses for £25) and, with similar deals on throughout the week, it's possible this will become more of a 'home' home rather than a second home. As if that wasn't enough, the W8 team allow you to join their 'Club' enabling you to receive further offers, including special discounts negotiated with their suppliers, monthly recipes and other goodies to make you feel part of the family.

We're hooked - let's hope it's a lifestyle change we stick with.
