Emeritus President Professor Provost Nigel Savage has been awarded another title. The University of Law has given him an honorary doctorate.

The portrait released to mark the auspicious day makes a slight nod to Prof Sauvage's humble past - the right hand is in turkey stimulating pose. But the overall impression is of a Roman Emperor gazing serenely down on his people. All he needs is a laurel wreath and a slave whispering in his ear that he is but mortal.

The UoL commended Savage on his honour, saying that "few leaders in education can claim to have taken an institution as far as he did The University of Law, and this recognition is richly deserved". Indeed, since he flogged off the UoL to an American private equity house the institution has lost its biggest law firm client - Clifford Chance - along with Allen & Overy, DWF and Osborne Clarke. Look on his works ye mighty and despair!
