Since the smoke has cleared from our pubs, we find ourselves slightly concerned at our surroundings. We can finally see the interior does indeed closely resemble the Queen Vic.

This is, of course, of great consternation and has forced us to stray outside of our east-end comfort zone and into new bars as we try to find something brighter. A bar that looked like it was out of Cheers would be a massive improvement.

Some of our local's regulars are concerned that we want to leave

Happily, we have stumbled upon a winner in the Cut Bar, stationed in the Young Vic. Frequented by thesps and the beautiful people, we finally feel safe from the Mitchell clan.

As you wander into the bar, you'd be fooled into thinking you're in a Hollywood movie. The people are fashionable and trendy (which is not necessarily a good thing) and the bar itself, set over two floors, looks like one of those cool warehouse bars in New York. Whatever it is... it feels good to be here.

The busy atmosphere still retains that happy relaxed feel despite the bustle. It doesn't feel rowdy. The massive windows probably help with that though - are people more relaxed when they can see the sky? Or maybe that's caged animals... anyway...

Reasonably priced drinks and bar snacks are a major reason for the bar's popularity with random people stumbling in and staying longer than they would have envisaged. Any time of the year you will find the terraced area stuffed full of non-smokers pretending they're somewhere in New York, whilst overlooking recently rejuvenated Southwark.

This is definitely a great choice of bar for a romantic drink before heading off to one of the various restaurants in the area. It's also sufficiently trendy and hip to stand toe to toe with Hoxton's finest - it's doing Southwark proud.
