What’s good about your life?

Open question. Broad canvas.

My wife and kids. There are no words to describe the love and happiness I feel when we're together.

Work. The future is very exciting.

Liverpool FC. These are the days I might never witness again. Whatever the trophy haul at the end of it, these years with klopp and this team given me some fooking incredible memories.

No offence Asimov, but the salary is pretty much 50% taxes and you're drawing it for a couple of years before you're sacked off or leave, and you have zero prospect of partnership. Less than zero. If you are where you are, it's at critical mass and they have other better more well established mouths to feed.

You're probably going to end up in an in-house role sub-GC, probably for a dismal financial institution, or a payments company which pays sod all.

Anyway, I'll leave you to it.

I should also add non contentious reg is way worse than contentious reg. Lots of good options in contentious reg - maybe £250k with bonus doing a 8 hour day as a senior VP at a bank which essentially is project managing external counsel re litigation and investigations, or you could make the same or more as a director doing litigation funding. Partnership is easier in investigations / contentious reg if clients like you - there's less law, less need to be technically excellent - contentious fin reg you have to always be up to date, there's such a raft of horrible complex crap legislation like SFDR, AIFMD, MiFID, SFTR, CRR etc from both the UK and EU out there, but with investigations and contentious it's mainly just the basics of the Fraud Act, POCA, Bribery Act, MLRs, SAMLA; super simple and easy. Doing something which requires you to use more of your brain for the same money is always a losing proposition.
