I can't understand the economics of it. The Shard doesn't seem to have been profitable with a hotel, offices, numerous flats, etc. so how can an expensive building which is just a viewing bubble with a bar and things be viable? Strikes me as just another architect generating some publicity.
It is better that London goes up than outwards, it is still the lowest rise global city. Protect areas of architectural value sure but I would like to see the depressing streets in zones 2 and 3 in places like Kentish Town replaced with high density modern housing.
