How much cheaper are advance booked returns? I only ever buy day returns which, on the route I use, are 7% cheaper. The main ways I save money on commuting are (1) not fooking doing it and (2) if I do it, going on the first off peak train.
I dont have too much of a problem with UK train long distance train pricing structure. Flexible travel at peak times is hugely expensive but that is mostly paid for by business and subsidies far cheaper ticketing off peak and bought in advance.
Given singles aren’t half the price of returns surely the bet is they’ll keep the prices as is, in effect increasing them. The railways are obvs a total disgrace in this country. Christian Wolmar was on rock n roll politics last week reminding us all what a shambles Railtrack was ab initio. But also how the left couldn’t run a bath fyi.

Return tickets always a bit of an anomaly to the UK in most of europe you just get a single each way with no difference in price.

It takes a special kind of one eyed alt right obsessive to blame this on a Union.
Corbyn has a lot to answer for since 2010!

No, often here two singles are cheaper than the return, even on advance.

This anti-Union rhetoric is pathetic.

What is the rationale? Are they trying to make us all buy season tickets even tho people only go into London twice a month?

In some ways easier not having to specify when you’re coming back before you go away.

Is it the unions’ fault the train companies put my season ticket by as much as they could legally get away with every single year?

No ofc not it’s the government’s fault for using network Rail to rinse the public instead of kicking the TOCs. Who voted for these c unts?
