Get some proper employment law advice but restrictive covenants can be removed or reduced as part of a commercial negotiation it's common practice. However whilst you need proper advice for any amendment to the RC's to be legally valid you will need any agreement to be in a formal legally binding settlement agreement.
If you help them find a replacement and/or are a good leaver that quid pro quo migh tbe possible. But (i) it needs to be in writing in a formal format; and (ii) you might want to check whether your boss has authority to commit the firm/business to removing/reducing the RC's as well.
It's certainly doable and certainly shouldn't feel uncomfortable but proceed carefully.
What bst said (albeit if you walk away with a letter from your boss waiving your RCs then in practice your employer would never be able to enforce them on you absent serious demonstrable losses).
*baits pinko*
See if you can get a settlement agreement out of it and some of your notice salary paid as tax free compo (fvck knows if you can actually do this anymore).

Also, how big a deal are the RCs to you? If it's not a big deal to keep them, you can just refuse and chill out without finding a replacement..

ha.
So having no RCs would be VERY handy
Boss is 80% owner
appreicate they can be negotiated- trying to work out how to play it
leaning towards just being the best most helpful person possible

Unless you need to play hardball or have a particular grudge, don't.
The Germans have a saying - man trifft sich immer zweimal im Leben. The world is small.
