New mega battery tech from Israel

IT’S ALL NONSENSE: I SAW AN ELECTRIC CAR ON TOP GEAR ONCE AND IT DIDN’T WORK

STICK WITH GOOD OLD FASHIONED FREEDOM FUELS PRODUCED BY OUR ALLIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST

....and an environmentally friendly way to make them. ?

but as they’re the only conceivable solution at the moment we need to run with them and hope both solutions are found in due course

Once we start seeing shortages of some of the nasty rare metals and minerals needed for batteries, I wonder if we will start seeing hydrogen cars becoming viable?

Hydrogen's also zero-emission at the point of use, but without the same need to mine loads of stuff from exploitative regimes.

You still need loads of electricity to produce hydrogen, and it seems like efficiency in production, distribution and in actual use is the big problem right now versus battery EVs, but if you produced the hydrogen in a place like Iceland with cheap geothermal electricity generation or somewhere with loads of sun and unused land (like deserts) for big solar plants, the cost of that could easily come down massively.

Another big advantage of hydrogen is zero charging time - you fill up like you would with petrol or LPG.
