My pal just got a police warning

Over a minor fight her dog got into with another dog in a park. No injuries were caused. And the other dog started it! Two cops came to the house for over an hour. Guess there must be no crime today.

Still, great to see the extra thousands in tax I pay for living in Scotland going to good use.

That case is enraging. The woman (amiddle class woman driving a car from mummy and daddy) got wrecked, mounted the pavement and hit a teenager, crushing his bones. Then she drove off and tried to pretend nothing had happened.

She absolutely deserved prison and every time I see her mother complaining about it I think "if you had less of a shitty attitude maybe she wouldn't have thought she was above the law in the first place".

EXACTLY what Clergs said!  How is 16 months in those circumstances a stiff sentence?  She was a drunk driver involved in a hit and run FFS!

It's a silly article (on comment is free, i.e. written by random mentalist)  but we owe a duty of care to those we imprison and that includes dealing with their mental health issues appropriately.

"Enlightened Scotland held a mirror to its face and once more found something ugly and disfigured staring back. The 21-year-old took her own life last year in Scotland’s main young offenders facility at Polmont. The student had received a 16-month sentence after being found guilty of injuring a teenage boy while drink-driving. In spite of pleas from the lad’s parents, a Scottish judge did what comes naturally to Scottish judges and hit her with a stiff sentence."

Most prisoners are mentally unwell. Prison is a serious business. But it is generally wrong and dangerous to attribute suicide to a specific cause (in this case there are reasons to think she had other pressures - her death came very shortly before her release etc)
