Who would have thought, back in that balmy summer of 2016, that a handful of Northern Irish Protestants would be responsible for preventing us leaving the EU in a meaningful way?
Who would have thought, back in that balmy summer of 2016, that a handful of Northern Irish Protestants would, hopefully, be responsible for preventing us leaving the EU in a way that will damage the economy and psyche of the Country for a generation at least?
Who'd have thought the PM would take steps to throw away her majority in 2017? Before agreeing to a backstop she knew they were dead against.
the thing is she actually had very little choice but to call an election in 2017. The clock was ticking on that Parliament and she realised that it would not leave her enough time to negotiate the future relationship after 29 March 2019. She wanted the Tozzas to have full control both before and after Brexit day
plus her ratings were good back then and she was up against Corbyn, who appeared widely loathed
her mistake was not in calling the election per se, it was running the campaign so badly and on a hard Brexit basis
Problem is Ray I doubt most people in England/Wales/Scotland give a fook about NI politics and just have a vague awareness of it all. I certainly knew very little about the DUP before they were thrust into this position by May
“I spoke to the DUP last night and they weren’t for budging – even the ones that I call reasonable were digging their heels in, and we do need them on board to try and win the smaller group of Conservatives who are not wanting to back this either."

True. We should never have been in a position where these people held the balance of power.

Bloody people!
Take a step back for a moment.

I'd blame TM. It ain't the DUP's fault even in your weird world. It's TM's snap election where she threw away her own majority.
She's a keeper Dux ;)... just your type, pre-zombie.

If she was going to call a general election, it should have been before triggering Article 50.

well yes, her other mistake was triggering Article 50. but once she’d done that a GE was essential

for all the NI Taliban’s hateful views and attitude, I did enjoy their Laconia response to whether they might abstain on May’s deal:
”We do not abstain on the Union.”

Not that they give a shit, since they are literally immune from being punished by voters in England, Scotland and Wales.

An alarming number of people in GB are pretty ignorant in general.
fixed that for you

I'm baffled that "the Union" is still a thing among mainstream GB politicians. Time to cut them loose.
