and I can't beleive this story

Who thr fvck paid for this study and why!!!

Some people are just looking for things to make then seem busy

'Study author Dr Graeme Law, of York St John University, interviewed 34 professional players — 20 at clubs in the English or Scottish Premier Leagues, 11 of whom were internationals.'

Poor guys  how they must be suffering  FFS!!!!

ABS , I could not agree more , what nonsense . There again an awful lot of what social sciences academics research and publish is just meaningless nonsense.

and can you believe that

‘One in three office workers said their well-being had been affected by an awkward greeting, such an unexpected kiss or hug.’

I remember a similarly useless study which concluded that being hunted by wolves was stressful for deer. Waste of money stating the obvious.

Abs, is the BBC website blocked at your work today?

A very large reason (very small) studies like this are done is to get into the media, to raise the profile of the institution and the researcher. If they can show all the media coverage they get it helps when bidding for funding for larger (better) studies.

They will be gathering altmetrics on the amount of time anything is linked to and rubbing their thighs in excitment

Phoebe, that is in part true but research bodies and councils, and even bodies in the private sector offering research grants will look at the number of citations of this paper.

i can’t imagine it will be very many ?

No Phoebe I still have the BBC but I read the Metro on my way into work

If you google it, there's a big story in the Mail

the study actually focuses on the pressure/mental health of footballers so it's a bit more than 'posh pants'

So probably unfortunate that the Metro calls it York University at the top of the piece. It's only if you read down to the end you find that the researcher is actually at York St John and not York.

Heh

when I used to devise these PR puff pieces, it was really bloody annoying when they got the Metro-type treatment coverage. "But the Daily Bumfuck in Bute gave it really good coverage!" we'd protest to the client...
