Captain Tom

Based on what a colleague who was ex-army told me, if you attained the rank of Major or higher (or the navy/RAF equivalent) you were allowed to keep using that rank in civilian life after you retired if you wanted to (but he doesn't as he thought it was a bit naff).

I've had a few clients over the years who have liked to be addressed as Major ...... on correspondence.

Expect these jokers are expecting a hefty legal bill on top of cash flow issues through the "charity" cash machine being closed down, so a swift sale is the order of the day.

The basic rule of non bellendery seems to be that the more service you have given and the more active you have been in that service, the less people are told about it, The converse is true.

Certain people I have known of my grandparents' generation who had distinguished careers in the forces during the war years were known as "Mr" even though they had held senior officer roles (albeit battlefield promotions no doubt).

I am sorry to be a curmudgeon about this but I am sick and tired of the Captain Tom tale and was uncomfortable with it back in the delusional days of lockdown brainwashing. He was an elderly man who did his bit and got some attention for it.  Then the world went mad.  The public response felt like the Princess Diana flower dumping business. Everyone using the event as a proxy for other feelings.  The raising of money for charitable purposes was great but it got completely out of hand and the family's behaviour thereafter was not a fitting memorial for him.  But who knows, maybe he was an absolute grifting shit too?? There, I said it.

Good to see Mid Bedfordshire Council are an equal opportunities employer as their planning and conservation officer must be blind. That extension is about as in keeping with its surroundings as Barry the Cab Driver in a premier City law firm.

The extension is a shocka.
Brick is wrong. Roof style is wrong. Gable end all wrong. Angle of roof not in keeping with main house. Skylight wrong. Weird point Dutch style brick corner pillars all wrong. Windows/ doors at odds with sashes in main house.
