Madame Mao (Jiang)had Zhou Enlai's adopted son (Sun Yang) and daughter (Sun Weishi) tortured and murdered by Red Guards. Sun Yang was murdered in the basement of Renmin University. After Sun Weishi died following seven months of torture in a secret prison (at Jiang's direction), Jiang made sure that Sun's body was cremated and disposed of so that no autopsy could be performed, and so that Sun's family could not have her ashes. In 1968, Jiang forced Zhou to sign an arrest warrant for his own brother.
Zhao died screaming with pain from cancer, Mao having refused him any medical treatment
Be careful what you wish for
It's a well known fact that Chairman Mao hated toilets and preferred to squat outside in a hole. On a visit to the USSR he was found perched precariously with his feet on the rim of the toilet and aides had to help him down for safety reasons.
i have been to China many times, and they are always lovely to me
so many times I can’t pay for food as my cards don’t work, so they just buy it for me
in a McDonald’s in Beijing once, stuck at the machine and was getting confused with Wepay; the lady McDonald’s employee bought me everything I was trying to order and more free of charge
directions, helping me when I can’t get internet, helping me order, strangers letting me use their phone to make long distance calls
they’re all absolutely lovely little oompa lumpas; I’d go back in a heartbeat. and they love their country and respect the government, which is more than you can say about other countries.
I wouldn’t move there mind you, but I’d like to go back to HK when borders open
My Dad contracted out some semi-conductor manufacturing to a Chinese company. Within 12 months they were selling the same product directly to Western markets in competition with him, in complete breach of IP law and indeed the contract terms. Fvck 'em.
But they seem to have a very low threshold for shitting themselves when it comes to Covid though: there were like 300 cases in all of China yesterday and they decided to test the entire population of Wuhan. Not questioning whether this is the right or wrong approach.
For me it's more a matter of taste. Looking at the complete clown show that the USA has become in recent years I cannot wait for China to supplant it as global hegemon so that the electoral choices of a bunch of morbidly obese, gun and race obsessed fvckwits no longer have such importance in our lives. The food will be much better as well.

Had ROF been around circa 1936 I'm sure there would have been plenty of people praising Germany for much of the above.

They are still not allowed on the International Space Station. Nobody trusts them not to nick stuff up there.
As they have been doing elsewhere for decades.

TBF I don't think Druss is a wumao any more. I think he just likes pissing on any hint of UK exceptionalism.

They don’t seem to be big into the religion of peace, mind you. Must not have got the memo, I guess.

Just finished reading about China shitting themselves over delta and how their homebrew vaccines aren't stacking up against the real ones.
What. A. Shame.

Yeah. Appears to be reporting on what people have said including the Chinese equivalent of Fauci / Whitty rather than a thinkpiece.

I'd hate to live in an authoritarian state, but I'm conditioned to feel that way by my experiences. I'm pretty sure most Chinese don't feel the same.

This is a great article from the New Yorker. This will be the reality of your life under China in a techno-dictatorship
