ROF has been really good in the past (well mainly ROFettes of a particular age) so I thought I'd give it a go again.
She's got nice jewellery, but likes some little nice dress pieces.
She likes nice make up and perfume.
I probably wouldn't risk clothes she can't try on, but nice maybe nice night wear.
I have just been given £400 of John Lewis vouchers.
Please recommend me stuff to buy so I look dead thoughtful and that!
In return I promise to answer any bespoke employment legal queries by nonnymail.

I am unclear of the brief - is the intention to use the 400 quid of John Lewis vouchers to buy the gift?

Is this for your wife?

Preferably.
Yes, it's for my wife.
She has a nice watch and a Garmin running watch.
She has nice handbags.
This is the (massive first world) problem isn't it? Nice stuff we know we want we've already bought ourselves.

If I had 400 quid to spend in John Lewis, I would buy some jo malone perfume and candles, a coach handbag and some pretty undies

£400 would get one hell of a vibrator.

New cordless Dyson hair straighteners?
Marc Jacobs Decadence perfume - comes in a handbag shaped bottle.

£400 is a good sum for a knock-out winter coat or boots, if you have reason to beleive she needs/would like something like that i think you should take her shopping in JL.

She's got the Dyson hairdryer and the AirWrap. Think that might be overkill?

I like this idea and would welcome it for me personally (although I think asking for it might sound w**ky) however my family's reaction when I bought everyone a goat for an African village still rings in my ears.

Well if she curls her hair and doesn't use straighteners - yes.
If she straightens her hair some times then it sounds like it would be right up her street. My Mrs is dead keen on them on the basis she loves the hairdryer.

Minkie has a point - why not just take her shopping?

£3 a week to save a snow leopard. Or a gorilla. Or both. Or a human.
I recall Zanzibar (part of Tanzania), about 5 years ago introduced a non-contributory pension of about US$10 per month. for residents aged (IIRC) over 70 years. US$120 per year. Say £100.
It has reportedly transformed lives. People can eat better.
Much of the money actually goes to support grand-children (or younger), especially primary-age school girls to pay school-fees and uniforms and stationery.
It was not the first pensioner welfare scheme in Africa. But the other countries that have done so are 'much' richer.
The life expectancy of those is Zanzibar is about 74 years.

OOh yes I do like that one Hoolie.
But she does have a number of similar higher-end ones like Mulberry and Gucci (the Bayswater black one is quite like that) so seems a bit me-too.

Does she have any sporting hobbies - yoga, tennis, running, ultimate fighting?

what work does she do? For Mrs M, any tote that cannot hold a laptop is a non-runner.

Double down on it this year and buy them two each. It’ll be even funnier.
The middle class Christmas gift I’m recommending this year is cooking classes from Migrateful.

Running.
She's studying for a masters in counselling. She has a Longchamp shopper (previous purchase from me) and a Mulberry Boho (also previous purchase from me) which fits her MacBook Air (previous purchase from me) in it.

If she runs does she have decent headphones/ear pods?

it does all seem a bit meh to spend hundreds on gifts that no-one really wants or needs when the goat thing is really quite cool
although OH and I have agreed not to buy each other presents this year and put the money towards a huuuuggge telly since the current one is on its last legs

I totally agree.
Which is why I have asked for nothing this year. Again. But she won't listen. Some people are just mad on Christmas aren't they?
My favourite ever gift was a proper fire-resistant gauntlet to put coal and logs on the fire. And a set of overalls.

That brora jumper - i dont have it but i do have one of their zip up hoodies in the same colour and while it is fantastic cosy hoodie the colour is not reallly as deep green as the pic suggests.
also - if you buy brora - sizes come up v big.
the cashmere quality is outstanding
