A lawyer in Singapore has been fined SGD10,000 for forging her degree.

Jaya Anil Kuma obtained a law degree from the National University of Singapore and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2012. When applying for jobs she forged her degree transcript and generously awarded herself better grades for 21 out of 27 subjects.

Boosted by her fake grades, Jaya landed an interview with the Singapore Legal Service in 2013. However she failed to get the job. She applied again in 2016, with further amendments to the transcript as well as improving her degree certificate from a 2.2 to a 2.1.

Jaya was rumbled when the Legal Service Commission noticed that there were discrepancies in the grades that she had submitted in 2016 compared with 2013. The commission notified the police and Jaya being slapped with a SGD10,000 fine.
