A lot will lose their seats, they’ve lost the party and are unable to influence anything and they are spineless. Better to quit now with their dignity just about intact and try and take back the party after the election.
I dont think it will happen pre election but I think there is going to be huge political re-alignment on the right following their forthcoming huge electoral defeat. Our electoral system does not allow for a Christian Democrat Style party to sit alongside a populist national party but the tensions are such that I think the split is coming anyway.
Because they are the majority of the Parliamentary party and reflect the majority of the party membership. The sooner we have the election and the handful of very vocal nutters defect to Farage's new party the better.
If the party is to survive in tact I think it has to reduce the say of members in the leader, as this means that the leadership is often out of sync with their MPs
I guess they expect the GE to clear out a majority of the nutter wing and then they can try to get their party back from the people who think US Republicans are on to something
Because "one nation" tories are human scum who care exclusively about their own careers. Don't forget that the vast majority of them vocally support Brexit.
In the 90s we all used to complain that there was no difference between the parties. New Labour continued from where Major left it. There's probably a belief among the backbenchers that these things are cyclical and you just have to ride it out. The policitians might change but the electorate stays the same. A dangerous thing to think.
Sumo - in terms of a general election clearing out the nutters, the last numbers I saw indicated that a wipeout would actually take the parliamentary party more rightward in terms of composition.
Your trusses and badenochs would probably hang on because of the sizes of their majorities.
The fact that Farage is still dithering about standing suggests that he fears Tice's party won't win any seats and so his best option is to set up a new party to sweep up the disgruntled Tory nutters.
Yes Guy which is why I suspect that those who do retain their seats will do a Carswell and join whatever Farridge calls his new party after the election.

I think he doesn't want to be too associated with Reform - which would make it awkward for him to come in unto the bloodied Tories as the Messiah. He's got his eye on the bigger prize. And as Kimmy and strutter mentioned upthread - an electoral wipeout is likely to prompt the Tories to swing reactionarily rightwards (at least for the first couple of leaders, but given the state of the membership it could be for longer than that). See Howard and IDS.

Well if that is true sails why don’t they use that muscle instead of sitting there being bullied by the loons?

I'm afraid this lot aren't very good at rebelling. See Rwanda bill.

Because there are so few of them, if any, left.
Mordaunt, Tugenhadt, Bob Neill, Damian Green. Gillian Keegan used to be, but has turned.

I know there's a "caucus" but most of them aren't proper One Nationers.

Doesn't Jeremy Hunt regard himself as a One Nation. I'm not really sure what it means. Something to do with Disraeli.

Hunt is probably closer to it than most.

Utter bollocks. The party is run by a large minority of loons and the only one nationers with any guts were jettisoned by Boris and cumface years ago.
The majority are trough bothering swine who will grunt along with whoever leads the party as long as they get to keep their snouts wet.
Happy to clear this up.

Yes, there are just various factions of loons now.

Yeah but so are a lot of the safest seats. I think Mark Francois has the safest seat in Parliament.

I though Farage was waiting to take over what is left of the conservative party after the election wipeout.

yeah francois’s seat (or rather its main predecessor constituency) gave the tozzas almost 50% even in 1997. it’s amithesucker’s idea of heaven.

Yes Nige thinks Reform won’t get any seats so wants to swoop in after the election with a new party people can defect to.
