US police - Texas this time

mind boggles

///

Natalie D. Simms was in shock as she stood on the dimly lit side street in San Antonio with her hands raised in the air. A police officer looking for drugs had failed to find anything after combing through her pockets — but much to Simms’s horror, the search wasn’t over.

“Spread your legs,” the officer allegedly told Simms.

On Aug. 8, 2016, Simms was subjected to a public vaginal cavity search during which her tampon was pulled out in view of male police officers and others nearby, according to a federal lawsuit filed last year in the Western District of Texas. Simms sued the city of San Antonio and now-retired San Antonio Police Department detective Mara Wilson for unspecified damages, alleging that the act was a “blatant violation” of her constitutional rights, and resulted “in significant and lasting harm.”

What the actual fvck is wrong with Americans? It's such a fvcked up place. On what planet is it appropriate to undertake a cavity search on the street FFS.

This is completely unrelated but, as regards uselessness of police officers, I think the best I have heard was many years ago from a British guy who lived in Lisbon. I had a Portuguese girlfriend at the time and she introduced me to him. He lived in a flat in an old building in the centre of Lisbon.

He told the story that one day when he climbed the stairs he realised his front door had been forced and was still open. He reasoned that a thief would likely have closed the door on leaving so perhaps he was still in the flat. He went back down into the street and found a policeman and explained the situation.

The policement accompanied him back to his flat. At this point the police officer appeared to get cold feet about entering. He took out his revolver and offered it to the Brit and suggested he go in alone to search it. He declined the revolver (especially as he had no experience with guns) but went in anyway, searched the flat but found nobody. He had been burgled though.
