From a UK/EU POV: It’s also dumb to call /imply that all criticism of Israeli strategy towards Palestinians is (or is inspired by) antisemitism
Prove me wrong on both or either.
The next bit should not need saying but to hopefully save time: Hamas is a terrorist organization, the October attacks and kidnappings are disgusting and Israel has the absolute right to defend itself and (if that were its strategy) prioritize getting back its hostages - and yea I accept that tragically the recovery of hostages would mean innocent lives being lost. When I say save time , I really mean don’t waste time criticizing me for raising the argument .

Nobody has ever come up with a workable strategy for that region.
The Israeli ultras could stop being such dicks when it comes to settlements and Hamas could work on better governance rather than terrorism.

Fair Barney
Im going to add another caveat: I accept some of the criticisms of Israeli strategy are inspired by antisemitism ….but trying to label a catch all phrase like “Free Palestine” as de facto antisemitism is ….dumb and undermines the cross society work needed to address genuine (and raising) antisemitism in public discourse

I completely agree. Most people are not going to think that saying "free Palestine" means hatred of Jews, and trying to insist that it does will be counterproductive at best.

The thing about ‘Free Palestine’ is whether it should be thought of as somehow implicitly including ‘From the river to the sea’.
I don’t agree it should, but ‘Free the Palestinians’ or demanding a Palestinian state is probably safer ground.

Agreed donny. Although of course they piled on Greta for ‘free Gaza’, and having a cuddly toy in the background so 🤷🏻♂️

The cuddly octopus in the background was VERY unfortunate tbf… Although I would definitely give her the benefit of the doubt on it.

I had to google what the octopus meant as I had no idea. Now noted.
Are we so brainwashed now that “Free Palestine”- a literal call for freedom of an oppressed people- is considered racist?
Weaponised anti-Semitism has come full circle.

Has the octopus ever featured in any other photographs of her?

OB - apparently that particular type of octopus toy is something that neuro divergent youngsters often use as a tool to describe feelings so it makes sense she would have one.

why would she deliberately include a symbol she knows to be anti-Semitic in a photo of her and her friends, one of whom is Jewish, calling for peace in Gaza
like what’s the theory here? she is anti-Semitic and wanted to let us all know?

It's easy to forget that she is barely more than a teenager and has Asperger's syndrome. She does actually deserve to be cut some slack I think. This really was a very young neurodivergent adult trying to express how she was feeling, not a rabid anti-semite trying to send a dog whistle.

Yes OB, one would generally be inclined to hide their anti-Semitism, you know, the way you hide your islamophobia.

It's one of these. Not exactly straight from the Nazi propaganda store.
