The Tory ‘money in the kitty’ tax cuts

Is this going to be super generous on the basis they’ll lose power this year and can get mileage for 2030 around labour tax and spend?

What has to hammered home over and over again when they knock a percent or two off the headline rates that this absolute peanuts compared to the non movement of tax thresholds as inflation has gone through the roof.

TBH they should do a poison pill - ram through swingeing tax cuts knowing they will probably lose the GE anyway - then spend a period in opposition belabouring Labour reversing their tax cuts (a narrative the Mail and others will be only too happy to run with).

If there really are millions of Lydias out there, just gagging to vote for lower taxes, who knows, they might actually win.  In which case the inevitable reverse ferret will be something to behold...

What, you mean cynically time cuts that they can’t possibly afford to come into play (say) 2 months before a general election in order to boost their seat total, but knowing that it won’t be by enough that labour when it comes in will be forced to reverse the unsustainable giveaway?

Well it certainly doesn’t sound like the sort of thing this high principled, ruling only for the good of the country government would do.

this is exactly what they are going to do

they will also try to ignore the £15-20bn they are going to have to pay in compensation for the infected blood scandal which in itself eats up any notional fiscal headspace the chancellor can otherwise conjure up

this is exactly what they are going to do

of course it is.  And tory supporters conveniently forget that we are currently being taxed at a higher rate than before the dark ages or something.

They won't do this at all. Nonsense scaremongering.

They've learnt the lesson very well from Norman Lamont who cut taxes to the bone in 1992 believing he was going to be passing them on to Neil Kinnock and he then had to put them all back up a few months later when the Tories won against the odds.

They won't risk that history repeating itself.

Lamont is IIRC on record as saying the promised tax cuts helped them win the 1992 GE.  The current lot would be probably glad for a repeat performance.  Or do they really want another term in charge of the country they've turbofvcked?

This bunch of puss-filled sore ridden ballbags told us when the deficit was the same level and debt to GDP was 70% not 100% that we had to "fix the roof".

Off to Rwanda with them...

tax cuts and a guarantee not to restrict domestic flights and some kind of sting in the tale to fvck labour on vat on school fees and they'd be home and dry

I'm sorry but you've had your ban on 7 bins and a reversal of the labour meat tax. All that's left is a guarantee not to have amenities within an easily walkable 15 minutes of your urban dwelling. No more, no less.

i will 😂 so uber hard if they do this and then the economy starts booming due 2 the natural cycle and the deficit comes down neway, but with labour in power
