Very very late to the party. Just caught the first 5 episodes and really liking it. I wasn't really sure about it initially, until I got to the end of the first episode, when Lasso was on the phone with his family back in the US, and then the tone of the show clicked. It is disarmingly heartwarming (although I hate the word) behind the goofiness, without being cloying like US sitcoms can be. Like the Roy Kent character a lot--the slightly over-the-hill curmudgeon who is in some sense the conscience of the team.

Although I have to say-the entire premise just isn't that believable, is it?

Richmond seems better run than glazer's United.
I liked it a lot. Second series tails off a bit though.

Just suspend disbelief and go with it.
The reason why I like Ted Lasso and Emily in Paris so much, is that the main characters are really hopeful, positive people. Regardless of the blunders they make or the meanness of others they never respond with spite or negativity.
It's so rare in pop culture these days to have sunny main characters - most main characters are messed up, selfish, deliberately written to be unlikeable, messy, vengeful, irresponsible and infantile. Ted and Emily for the most part aren't like that (especially Emily, but then she's still so young).

It’s not chill. It’s so bland and middle of the road. It’s basically like a modern version of every decreasing circles

Ted Lasso is indeed spectacularly middle of the road but FFS don't bring Ever Decreasing Circles into this. EDC was extraordinary comedy. Genuinely funny and with amazing characters. Good tinge of sadness too. Everyone knows a Martin and a Paul.

Annoys me how ridiculously unprofessional they seem to think premier league football is but whatever, it's enjoyable

Bloody loved it, for the reasons outlined by SCT, actually. Positive, upbeat…We’ve watched it twice.

I hated it to start - didn’t seem to appreciate how important professional football is to people - has no feeling for the culture but in the end i appreciated football was just a backdrop and ended up enjoying it - good mix of British and US humour

I didn’t like it, and I really wanted to and tried to. I watched the whole first season. It was just boring, rarely funny. I get that Ted is nice and relatable but that isn’t enough for me to invest.

They keep having English players say things like "tied" as well, which is very jarring. They go all-in on some things that the yanks clearly won't get so why the stupid half-way point on some annoying things?

heh my favourite thing is how the street ted lives on is absolutely nothing like any street in london and instead is some sort of fantasy small town americana where everyone has terrible british accents

Wasn't it shot on location in Richmond?

tbc what i meant pp wasn’t so much the physical location but the fact that it seems entirely unconcerned with the anonymity or general hectic pace of london
its like some gilmore-girls-esque london where you can be sitting on a park bench and run across your boss walking home from a date and have a heartfelt conversation, or where your employee’s girlfriend will knock on your door at 9pm without calling ahead just to update you about something that happened earlier that day and then leave

Pfft. Literally worked on that street for two years after uni.

It's quite clearly set in Richmond. One has chinned many times at that pub before a trip to HQ

They seem to have just glossed over the storyline about the Dubai Air sponsorship. Am a bit relieved actually, as delving more into the fallout would have detracted from the comedy bit.

The Coach Beard episode was weird and a bit too long. I like the character (and actor), but sometimes a character works precisely because he is not the main focus.

Agreed PP - football doesn't like looking into its dodgy sponsors.

I like how their shirts switched to saying "Bantr" in the next episode though.

Football loves bantr/bantor/banter

The development of Nate’s character over the two seasons is so masterly. He ends up completely different, but you can see how it’s in him all along.
