NEW: There have been a massive 2.8m applications to #RegisterToVote since the election was called. That's over a million more than the comparable pre-deadline period during the last election, which saw 1.7m applications

NEW: Two thirds (1.86m) of the 2.8m who've applied to #RegisterToVote so far this election campaign are under the age of 35

There were two old 'tactical voting' buddies handing out register to postal vote leaflets at the station.  'Register to vote by 5pm' they kept saying.  I did point out that it was 5.45 and an indicator of which day may be useful...

Although some could already be on the register. My twins are registered at home with a postal in our safe Lnodon borough Tory seat and recently both registered at university to vote in person only there so we should probably not assume everyone newly registering is not already registered and just choosing to vote where they study.

Yesterday saw 366,443 people apply to register. 72% of applications (264,306) came from people aged 34 or under. The ERS’ National Voter Registration Day on Friday saw over 300,000 people register – the highest number up to that date

Corbyn is clearly nowhere near as popular as in 2017; equally people register but don't always vote.  But no way are a majority of these 3m people or so registering to vote Tory Oracle of Delphi.

Opinion polling is total BS and nowadays usually wrong.

“How many do you think are actually genuine people entitled to vote though?”

Literally all of them.

Serge, 2.8m new voters all in the most brexit-hostile, left-wing segment of the electorate will DEFINITELY move the needle. Definitely affect the distribution of seats. Enough? Dunno.

What Lydia said.  There are about 2.5 million students at UK universities.  Some of them will be from overseas. Some will already be registered.

Many will have become 18 since 2017. Some already registered at uni for the 2017 election will now be registering at home for December 12th.

How many new, new voters?  Dunno
